El nuevo grupo: "Unsprung Mass"

Bruce Mclaren fue fundador del equipo Mclaren de Fórmula 1, y como él dijo, los resultados se obtienen con preparación y mucho trabajo. Por ello, desde el equipo Formula Student Bizkaia nos esforzamos para obtener lo mejor de nosotros mismos y aplicarlo a este proyecto. Desde el grupo Unsprung Mass (UM) os queremos contar las novedades que vamos a implementar este año. Pero antes, ¿Qué es Unspung Mass?
Es el grupo responsable de los corners, sistema de frenos, suspensión y dirección. Por tanto, se encarga de la dinámica del vehículo, así como de los sistemas de control mecánico del coche.
Una de las novedades que implementamos este año desde UM se encuentra en el sistema de dirección. En temporadas anteriores empleábamos un sistema de dos cardan simples que empleábamos para transmitir el movimiento de rotación de un eje (volante) a otro (columna) con un ángulo entre ellos.

En esta temporada 2017 vamos a emplear un sistema de reenvío rescatando y mejorando un diseño ya empleado en el FSB2014.
El reenvío es un sistema de engranajes cónicos que transmite el movimiento de rotación de un eje a otro. Empleando este sistema se reducen al mínimo las holguras en la dirección y la fuerza para girar será mucho menor ya que no hay perdida de par, como sí ocurre con las cardan. Algo que a buen seguro agradecerán nuestros pilotos.

Bruce Mclaren was the founder of Maclaren F1 team, and as he said, the results are obtained with preparation and hard work. Beacause of that, in Formula Student Bizkaia we try to give the best of ourselves and apply it to the proyect.
From the group Unsprung Mass (UM) we want to tell you about the new designs we are about to implement in our new car, but before..., what is Unsprung Mass?
Is the group in charge of the corners, brake system, suspension and steering system, so it’s responsible of the vehicle dynamics as well as the mechanic control systems.
One of the innovatios UM is going to put on track this year is the new steering system. In the previous years we were using a two simple cardan joints system witch transmitted the rotation from an axix (stering weel) to the other (column) with an angle between them.

In this FSB2017 we’re going to use a gear system by re-using and improving the design of the FSB2014.
In the new design we use conic gears to transmit rotation. This allows us to reduce the gaps and the force you have to apply to the wheel in order to turn the car. We’re sure the drives will be pleased with the result!
