Los accidentes ocurren cuando menos te lo esperas, cuánta razón. Nos encontrábamos en el PIN (Parque Infantil de Navidad) dispuestos a ofrecer el que sería el último espectáculo de nuestro querido FSB2017. Era un día para disfrutar, de enorgullecerse y de despedir a un coche que tantas alegrías, disgustos y logros nos había brindado. Se respiraba tranquilidad en el ambiente, el coche daría unas vueltas alrededor de un circuito de karts dando comienzo al evento.
El espectáculo comienza, nuestro coche empieza a rodar en manos de nuestro piloto, el suelo resulta resbaladizo, pero nada importante, el tiempo y las vueltas pasan mientras el público disfruta del espectáculo. Sin embargo, todo cambia cuando en una curva a izquierdas el coche resbala más de lo experimentado hasta ese momento, el piloto trata de corregirlo, pero es demasiado tarde, las barreras están muy cerca.
No obstante, nadie mostraba preocupación por el incidente, el vehículo había impactado a muy baja velocidad y al ocurrir en el punto más lejano de la pista la gran mayoría de personas no se había percatado de ello. Es por ello, la cara de sorpresa y asombro que todos padecíamos cuando vimos aparecer el coche con medio alerón delantero, realmente el impacto con las barreras había resultado más grave de lo que habíamos intuido. Y mayor fue nuestro asombro al recoger el resto del alerón delantero que se había desprendido del coche, el cual será mejor que lo vean por sus propios ojos ya que resulta difícil de creerlo y explicarlo. Aún a día de hoy desconocemos a ciencia cierta cómo pudo golpearse para que se deformara de tal manera, nuestro piloto comentó la sensación de haberse enganchado el alerón a las barreras, pero sea como fuera, fue algo verdaderamente curioso.
Asique ahí nos encontrábamos, ante un monoplaza con un alerón partido por la mitad y hecho una pelota en el día de su despedida, de su jubilación. Aquel monoplaza que tantos recuerdos, buenos y malos, nos había ofrecido parecía querer añadir una anécdota más a su historia.
La reparación de semejante destrozo no era sencilla, pero no podíamos dejar así al coche que tanto nos había hecho vivir y sentir, había que ponerse manos a la obra, en una semana debía volver a estar reluciente como la joya que es. Desde el grupo aerodinámica nos reunimos, valoramos distintas opciones y una vez se tomó una decisión nos pusimos manos a la obra. Tan solo 48 horas después del accidente, el pequeño FSB2017 ya estaba listo para la acción, para la que sería su nueva vida como modelo.
Accidents happen when you least expect it, totally true. We were in the PIN (Christmas Children's Park) ready to offer what would be the last show of our beloved FSB2017. It was a day to enjoy, to be proud of and to say goodbye to a car that has given to us so many joys, dislikes and achievements. There was calmness in the environment; the car would go around a kart circuit giving the start of the event.
The show begins, our car starts to move in the hands of our driver, the ground is slippery, but nothing important, time and laps pass while the audience enjoys the show. However, everything changes when in a left-hand corner the car slides more than what has been experienced up to that moment, the driver tries to correct it, but it is too late, the barriers are very close.
However, no one was concerned about the incident, the vehicle impacted at a very low speed and as it happened at the farthest point of the track the majority of people did not noticed it. That is why, the face of surprise and amazement we all suffered when we saw the car appearing with the half of the front wing, the impact with the barriers had been really more serious than we initially thought. And even more was our astonishment when we picked up the rest of the front wing that had been detached from the car, and as it is quite hard to believe and explain, it would be better if you take a look at the picture. Even nowadays, we do not know exactly what happened with the front wing to be deformed in that way, our driver commented the sensation of having attached the aileron to the barriers, but whatever it happens, it was something really curious.
So there we were, in front of a car with a spoiler split in half and made a ball on the day of his farewell, his retirement. The car that so many memories, good and bad, had offered to us seemed to want to add one more anecdote to its history.
The repair of such damage was not easy, but we could not leave the car that had made us feel so much, we had to get down to work, in a week it had to be shining again like the jewel it is. All aerodynamics group members sat together, evaluated different options and once a decision was taken we got down to work. Only 48 hours after the accident, the little FSB2017 was ready for action, for what would be his new life as a model.
